Sustainability is a bigger issue than ever before, with consumers of crop care products progressively searching for eco-friendly solutions to their everyday operations.
Our new, 100% renewable, 100% bio-based ethylene oxide (EO) ECO plant based at our manufacturing site at Atlas Point, is the first of its kind in North America. It will allow for the creation, manufacture and sale of sustainable solutions, that will positively influence tomorrow. This enables customers to gain a sustainable product which delivers the identical high performance as the petrochemical-based material.
With the high proportion of renewable energy available at our manufacturing site, along with the use of bio-EO, there is a significant reduction in carbon footprint for a typical crop product family, when compared to traditional ethoxylates made using petrochemical based EO and without renewable energy. As an example, ECO Tween 20 using bio-EO and renewable energy has a 26% lower carbon footprint than its conventional ethoxylate equivalent, which uses a traditional petrochemical source and no renewable energy.
The ECO process will convert corn-based ethanol into ethylene oxide for use in various products, from Personal Care applications to Crop Care applications

The heat and electricity for making our ECO range is generated onsite using non-fossil fuel-based landfill gas and solar energy, reducing Croda's annual CO2 emissions by 11,600 tonnes
